







Classes
In every Kindermusik class, your child is welcomed into a playful and nurturing environment where they will sing, move, play instruments, and hear stories—all while developing social skills, problem-solving skills, pre-math skills, and a foundation for reading. Our research-based curriculum focuses on whole-child development and helps you understand how your child is developing musically, cognitively, and socially.

Levels can be joined at any time and do not need to be completed before moving on, apart from the final Semester of Level 5
Foundations
0-18 months
Our Foundations classes offer a sensory-rich yet caring and gentle environment where infants and young toddlers can explore and react to new sounds, sensations, objects, and movements.
Activities include
*listening to and experiencing songs and rhymes
* experiencing and exploring baby safe instruments
* Back-and-forth vocal plays and other parent-child interactions that build neural pathways in a baby’s developing brain

Level 1
Ages 1-2
Level 1 classes provide toddlers with a stimulating setting to explore their new movement and language skills with a sense of security, comfort, and confidence.
Activities include:
* Discovery and play with scarves, hoops, mirrors, and more
*Instrument play and introduction to basic music concepts such as high/low, fast/slow, and holding a steady beat
*Singing songs that include motions, repeated words, and different meters and modes
Benefits include:
*Heightened body awareness and beginning competence in self-regulation of movement
*Development of various basic gross-motor skills, fine-motor control, and coordination
*Growing ability to recognize and follow patterns in music and move to a steady beat, fundamental skills that have been linked to math and language
Level 2
18 Months- Age 3
Level 2 classes encourage older toddlers to initiate their own ideas, nurturing social-emotional growth and cognitive development in a playful, exploratory environment.
Activities Include
*Exploring movement concepts and participating in musical interactions with objects and others
*Discovering different ways instruments can make sounds and experiencing a wide range of musical concepts
*Identifying and vocally imitating sounds and learning to describe them
*Learning to associate a picture with a sound
*Singing songs with language patterns that explore rhythm, speech sounds, syntax, and rhyme

*Stabilization of muscles necessary for healthy posture and overall balance
*Improved coordination and locomotor skills, fine motor skills, and finger and hand strength

Level 3
Ages 3 to 5
Level 3 classes are designed to engage preschoolers’ natural love of music and activate their imaginations, while developing their growing language and social-emotional skills.
Activities Include
*Experiencing a variety of sounds and learning how sounds are produced by playing musical instruments, speaking or singing
*Playing instruments with an emphasis on steady beat, repeated rhythm patterns, graphic notation, and ensemble music
*Ensemble Development, an activity that builds the skills preschoolers need in order to create music within a group
*Engaging in creative expression and language play, expressing feelings and ideas through movement and music
*Pre-reading music and learning to interpret graphic notation symbols, a precursor to learning traditional music symbol

*Growing ability to detect patterns, nuances, and timbre in sounds, a critical skill for music and language development
*Experience waiting patiently, taking turns, working cooperatively in a group and communicating effectively and respectfully

*Learning how to decode and interpret symbols, skills necessary for reading, math, and music
Level 4**

Level 4 classes offer first experiences with musical symbols and more advanced instruments, laying the groundwork for formal music instruction and ensuring school readiness.
Activities Include
*Listening to a variety of sounds, including music from individual instruments and complete compositions that highlight specific genres, cultures, composers, or concepts and sharing their listening observations
*More complicated instrument-play, such as dances that include instrument play, back-and-forth rhythm conversations with instruments, and songs with accompanying instrument patterns
*Experiencing various types of movement, including creative movement, movement with a partner, group, instruments, or props, and movement that explores concepts like high/low or staccato/legato
*Singing a variety of songs in an appropriate range and engaging in call-and-response, echoing, and instrument play
*Pretend play through music, vocal development, storytelling, listening, and movement
*Introduction to music concepts and vocabulary

Our most advanced classes offer children the opportunity to use music notation to play a variety of instruments and participate in ensembles, while developing problem-solving and pre-literacy skills.
Activities Include
*Learning how to understand simple music notation and play the glockenspiel, dulcimer, and the recorder
*Experiencing steady beat, meter, and rhythm through listening to music, moving, singing, playing instruments, and reading and writing music notation
*Learning new music concepts through listening, moving, singing, game-playing, visuals, and imaginative play
*Listening to music and sound with an analytical ear and paying close attention to pitch variation and timbre between specific instruments
*Developing their speaking and singing voices through listening, imitating, and exploring
*Participating in a variety of ensemble experiences, including instrumental ensembles, vocal ensembles, and group dancing

Mixed Age
Newborn-Age 7
Our mixed-age classes are perfect for families who wish to bring two or more children of different ages to the same class, or for parents who simply prefer a mixed-age setting for their child. These classes allow infants through seven-year-olds—and their caregivers—to gather together for a fun-filled learning experience. Your Kindermusik educator will help you modify movement activities, group dances, and instrument-play activities for each of your children.
